A safe and disease free country – malaria was eradicated in Mauritius in 1955!!! The latest bout of Chikungunya in 2006 was quickly mastered by the local authorities in a matter of 10 months and has shown no signs of resurgence up to now this year. One only needs the basic vaccinations(BCG) if one is traveling or has transited or traveled from an infected country. Coming from Europe or the developed world, vaccinations are not even necessary The country has a very tolerant population where everybody lives in a quiet harmony and religious exchange. The risk of a terrorist attack on the Mauritian soil is close to zero!
